Poppi is a radical new start-up that’s taking the airline travel industry by storm.
The company, created by Teague Design Consultancy, imagines a new age of airline travel with exciting additions that provide solutions to the most common complaints in the aviation industry. They hope to disrupt the airline travel industry in the same way Uber and AirBnB impacted the taxi and hotel industries. Most importantly, the business aims to achieve these goals without ever having to enter the market.
Principal Brand Strategist Devin Liddell explains, “What we wanted to do with Poppi is envision those disruptions now so that airlines operating today can start implementing them. The airline business model and how airlines operate both present a lot of opportunities for reinvention.”
Poppi hopes to improve on a number of typical air travel issues. Mobile apps that feed real-time flight information can minimize time spent waiting at the gate before a flight. RFID tags will track luggage safely and efficiently. A new flight class system focuses on different experiences rather than quality tiers. Instead of coach, business, and first class, picture a “Cinema class” that gives you access to exclusive media, a “click class” with additional convenience features, and a “promotional class” that offers you sponsored goodies.
Although the Poppi business model is just an outline, these innovations are meant to spark discussion among airline companies around the world. Implementing them will take time, but the intention is to improve the entire customer experience and illuminate a better future for the airline travel industry.
